How Does the Solunar Calendar Work?
Solunar theory, developed by John Alden Knight in 1926, predicts that fish and other animals feed most actively during certain periods related to the position of the moon and sun.
Major periods occur when the moon is directly overhead (lunar transit) or underfoot (inferior lunar transit), lasting approximately 2 hours. Minor periods coincide with moonrise and moonset, lasting approximately 1 hour.
New Moon and Full Moon phases generate the strongest tides and thus the greatest feeding activity in fish.
